Develop Positive Thinking : Programming Our Thoughts

Life Strategies For Helping You Help Yourself

    >>  Click Here To Discover How You Can Create The Life You Want <<

A car can only go in two directions, either forward or backward, and like a car, we can move forward or backward in our lives. Our every thought either takes us toward our goals and desires or away, and has a positive or negative effect on the direction of our lives.

Compare your brain to a computer. If a new PC is loaded up with virus contaminated programs would you expect it to run smoothly? Of course not, because you get out of the computer exactly what you put in - your brain is exactly the same.

Your every thought determines the direction of your life. If you are moving backward then take time to analyze your thoughts. Make a determined effort to recognize negative thoughts and treat them as your worst enemy. Try not to dwell on them. Putty can be molded into any shape or form and so too, your life can be shaped and your destiny set by your thoughts.

Remember, the potential for change is the same for everyone. It only takes acceptance of the idea that change is possible coupled with the determination to follow-through. It's not always easy to control our thoughts, but certainly not impossible, and the rewards can last a lifetime.

There are many books on the subject of self-help, but remember, you must take action to succeed. Your thoughts will not change simple by reading an article or book. You must apply what you learn to your everyday affairs. Allow what you read to awaken the possibility of change within you, then take action.

One of the most beneficial practices for positive thinking is to look for the "good" in everyone and everything. Remember to encourage others everyday by a kind word or deed and be ready to offer (or receive) compliments.

Find opportunities to put the power of your positive thinking to work. For example, you might be standing in a long line at the supermarket checkout. Rather than get upset, do your utmost to help-out and encourage others with a kind word or compliment. You will be surprised at the positive reaction and at how many people will bless you with a wonderful smile in-return.

Taking the time to notice others and look for the "good" in every situation will not only life your spirits, but will brighten the day for everyone around you - it's a win-win situation to be sure. There are a 1001 ways to look for the good in others, be they family, friends or those you may only meet once. So, get the lead-out, get rid of those negative thoughts and become a winner.

Begin today to change your thought patterns one step at a time. Set yourself a goal for the week or month and devote full attention to controlling your thoughts. Start with at least one hour each day and increase the time as your confidence and thinking improve. It is a habit that needs nurturing and a habit you'll come to cherish.

Horse Training: Teach Your Horse To Use His Hindquarters

Life Strategies For Helping You Help Yourself

    >>  Click Here To Discover How You Can Create The Life You Want <<

Wanna help your horse develop and use his hindquarters more?

Ride him up and down steep hills.

Before you do though, I suggest you have control over him. Thus, when you ask him to stop, he knows to stop.

And be sure to do it in places where you feel safest. Don't be around a bunch of wire fencing, posts, holes, etc.

Now as you go up the hill, pick a point you want to go to. Walk slowly, straight, and don't let him get chargey.

You don't want a horse to charge up hill or down because it's a great way for you to get hurt.

Remember, a horse thinks much more clearly when he's walking. And is far less to get excited when going about his work calmly.

On the other hand, you want to drive him up that hill. So you have to balance it out.

Be sure to stay in proper riding position so he can move as he needs to.

As you come down the hill, try stopping him and stay standing for a mom- ment. This'll test the control you have on him.

But remember if you stop and stand on a hill for long periods of time, turn your horse perpindicular to the hill.

As you go uphill, hold on to his mane if you need to balance yourself. Don't pull on the reins or use the saddle horn.

You will find that practicing this with your horse will help develop collection.

And speaking of collection, you can learn a lot about collection by watching horse training videos of expert horse trainers.

Positive Thinking Is More An Attitude Than A Characteristic

Life Strategies For Helping You Help Yourself

    >>  Click Here To Discover How You Can Create The Life You Want <<

We tend to think that positive thinking means a radiant person who always looks confident, but it does not need so. Positive thinking is to think any things that can help you solve the problems you get, think of any benefits or lessons you can get from any things you don't like.

Seek and you will find, seek anything that is valuable and you will find, for example you may learn a lesson from one bad investment. But if you focus on complaining, what you get is just thoughts that can not help you.

Why I say positive thinking is not the privilege for those radiant people?

For example, if you have a project to do, you feel nervous and fear you will not do well, that is not called negative thinking in my opinion, but rather called cautious. Because you take time to prepare, think of any events that may happen so you'll be more confident, and the endeavors you put helps. And what he will do next is to convey his ideas and deliberations, he will try to talk in a nice way that other people can perceive, he will smile and talk as if he already thought of any possibilities.

And guess what other people may think? "He looks very confident!" Although he may feel quite nervous before the presentation.

    T. Harv Eker said, "Rich and successful people have fear, rich and success people have downs, rich and successful people have worries, they just don't let the feelings stop them"

And many comedy actors confessed that they really feel quite anxious before the show, but when they stand on the stage, they just concentrate on their performance, and leave us a wonderful show. What kind of thinking may not help is, for example, complaining others or just wanting to evade the troubles.

With this perspective, positive thinking is a kind of habits everyone can develop, even if you feel you are not a confident person right now, because it is just an attitude, not your inborn characteristic.

    Positive Thinking for Profit

Life Strategies For Helping You Help Yourself

    >>  Click Here To Discover How You Can Create The Life You Want <<

What lies within you, that which is you, your thoughts and internal processing reflects outwardly into the world and manifests itself as your day to day life. Each belief, thought pattern and indeed your inner programming is an almost inevitable vision of your future...unless you change it!

Look at your life now. Take the major events in your life, the relationships, economic situation, your lifestyle and health. Trace these back to where they came from and you will find the first cause inevitably lies within. Take a look at your beliefs and see how they match up to where you are now.

So if your inner programming is so important then how can we start to influence and consciously change our own internal processes to reflect that which we desire. Well let's look at money as an example. If your parents were/are solid local government employees the chances are that you of the opinion that money is all about hard work spending time at the office trading your time and hard effort for an after tax wage at the end of each month, then how can you go about changing this pattern of thought.

Well, a good start would be to focus your attention and thoughts on a particular object of your desire that fills you with passion, something that requires money to attain but that you will be really motivated to obtain.

Now remembering that faith and belief are so powerful that they are the foundation of most religions how about applying them to your own goals in life. Develop your own level of belief that you will purchase that house by the sea or whatever other goal fills you with burning desire. Start to visualize yourself actually in the house, waking up in the morning, walking on to the balcony and feeling alive with the inspiring view of the sun-rise in front of you. Create in your mind a place or tunnel that you can enter and feel those thoughts and emotions at anytime and practice them regularly.

At first it may feel unrealistic that you are living your dream in your minds eye, however this is where persistence comes in. As you use this visualization technique regularly the thoughts will gain more clarity and will become more familiar, they will shrug off the feeling of unfamiliarity as you also see the pointers in your life opening the way towards your dreams fruition. Your thoughts will force you into taking positive action towards fulfilling your desires. And as you notice the doors opening where previously the way seemed barred your self-confidence and belief will increase and you will feel certain that you are but just a step away from your attaining your initial vision and desire.

Finally you will notice that your inner beliefs and desires will have led your actions along a parallel course that literally has made you take continuous positive action towards your goals until at last you physically are taking in the sunrise views from your very own beach-side villa.

The use of this visualization or positive thinking procedure creates favorable thought and action habits. There is no magic bullet to be taken, did you ever meet a person with lasting wealth who hadn't worked for it? Dreams do not come true by dreaming but by continuous positive action focused on a particular goal inspired by your thoughts and belief. Follow this process and you will astonish yourself.

I invite you now to start your own visualization process. Put aside a few minutes each day to go through a movie in your mind and keep with it, make it a part of your routine each day. Decide to improve your life here and now but most of all remember that a decision hasn't been made until you take action on it! So start right-away.

    The Perils of Positive Thinking

Life Strategies For Helping You Help Yourself

    >>  Click Here To Discover How You Can Create The Life You Want <<

Something bothered me about the teeth of the consultant who was sitting in front of me, on the other side of the helpdesk. I couldn’t identify what it was immediately. I was at my bank’s foreign exchange division, hoping to get some advice on an upcoming business trip. As the positive and friendly consultant was talking, I suddenly realized what seemed out of place for me. Embedded in his front tooth was the ultimate symbol of business success - a gold dollar sign! I struggled to concentrate on our conversation. I caught myself in forced contemplation and my curious mind was analyzing why he chose this unique form of expression. I was ambushed by the realization that it was because he was working in foreign exchange. Different strokes for different folks. Some committed corporate employees choose to personalize their car number plates with the company’s name, but this consultant chose to add some bite to the bark. I interrogated myself in silence. Was this not taking it a bit too far? Was I a perplexed spectator of misdirected positive thinking?

I’m not sure what the right answer is, but I am convinced that this type of mindset can sometimes lead to eccentric behaviour, to say the least. The wheel starts buckling once we abandon common sense and basic business acumen in the process. Positive thinking without common sense is like operating your computer without anti-virus software. It causes illogical and unnecessary threats to one’s career and business that could easily be avoided. Please don’t get me wrong! The workplace needs more positive people than ever. No-one can deny the exciting impact that positive attitudes have on the outcome of our strategies and events. The problem is just that positive thinking on its own doesn’t pay the bills nor grow market share. Someone once said that zeal without knowledge is deadly. Positive thinking without substance is nothing but a fairytale for adults. Overemphasizing positive thinking at the expense of other critical success factors will only lead to embarrassment and disappointment.

A whole industry has sprung up in recent times to teach us how to radiate a positive image. We get taught to dress professionally and how this will positively influence our companies, careers and credibility. Clients will view us in a new light and the business results will follow. Positive image consultants help us with our colour coding, rearrange our wardrobes and make sure that certain clothing items get the boot. Being in touch with our colours and making our ties and scarves work for us will positively sway opinions around us. We will also feel better about ourselves. To a certain extent this might be true, but what about the elegantly dressed executive who cannot rally her sales force to higher performance? What about the colour coordinated, smartly dressed financial broker who doesn’t know the difference between life insurance and a pension fund? Do they perhaps spend too much time in front of the mirror and too little time growing their knowledge, products and people? A young accountant approached her retired mentor one day and asked very expectantly how she managed such a successful career. This answer was surprisingly brief: “Good decisions”. In anticipation she launched the next question: “But how can I learn to make good decisions?” The wise mentor paused for a moment and replied: “Through experience!” Again the eager accountant asked: “But how do I gain experience?” Her mentor smiled understandingly: “Through bad decisions!”

Some of the ardent advocates of positive thinking with their new-age message of “I”, “me” and “myself” are simply neglecting very important factors in the process. Very often, they do not take into account the importance of experience, teamwork and old-fashioned hard work across the span of a career. It is much easier and profitable to sell instant solutions to the market place. The problem is just that people are not computers. A rapid reboot doesn’t instantly prepare people for a lifetime of growth and success. A quick download from a memory stick doesn’t build self-awareness nor instantly delete insecurity. A pair of trendy shoes with matching socks doesn’t produce the performance required to get promoted to the next level. I don’t know about you, but rather give me a team in denims and t-shirts who can do the job efficiently, caring for the customers and who are real and secure about themselves than people with very little substance. The old cliché still rings true: “don’t judge a book by its cover!”

All of us will get discouraged some or other time at work. At times like these, we seek out the support of a trusted colleague or friend. This dejected situation usually unfolds in one of two scenarios. The ideal is when the other person truly listens and empathizes with you during this challenging time. You appreciate the chance to get the problem off your chest and leave the room, ready to face the world again. The second scenario involves the friend or colleague that is a single-minded positive thinker. The more that you try to verbalize the problem in order to feel better, the more you get interrupted with “positive solutions”. The more you crave empathy, the more they inject you with the importance of positive thinking. It leaves you feeling even more dejected and riddled with guilt about your inability to think positively during this trying time. Interestingly enough this is not a new phenomenon. An ancient Hebrew proverb already described hundreds and hundreds of years back that this type of approach is like “one who takes off a garment on a cold day, or like vinegar on soda, is he who sings songs to a troubled heart.”

Positive thinking on its own cannot and will never be a substitute for getting things done and achieving results. Positive thinking without application of knowledge and skill is nothing but wishful dreaming and fraught with the dangers of disillusionment. A penchant for action is a sure way to move ahead in the workplace. One of the greatest characteristics of all successful people is that they are forever action-oriented. Positive thinking in the absence of all the other factors that contribute to success will never be the magic bullet it is made out to be. And before I forget, the positive thinking consultant from my bank with the gold dollar smile made a positive impression on me, but unfortunately he couldn’t solve my query...

    Positive Thinking Every Day

Life Strategies For Helping You Help Yourself

    >>  Click Here To Discover How You Can Create The Life You Want <<

Did you know that you have more influence in your own life than any other person? Your thoughts are controlled by you. So how do you take control and start thinking positive every day? Follow these five steps:

Positive Thinking Step One: Reframe the picture. Many times, we meet certain circumstances with clouded vision. We base our present and future experiences on the past. If something similar recently went wrong, then we automatically expect the same results. Reframe the picture. How can you look at this situation differently?

Positive Thinking Step Two: Ask for support. While the choice is ultimately yours to think positive every day, you can ask for support. Sometimes it’s difficult to see your way out of something if all you can see are the bad things. When you find yourself in this position, turn to a supportive friend and ask for their perspective. Occasionally you need a little help from others.

Positive Thinking Step Three: Be brave. You might be thinking to yourself that positive thinking every day for you just isn’t possible. I disagree. You have to be brave and do what you haven’t done before. Make a conscious effort to change your thinking.

Positive Thinking Step Four: Use positive affirmations. Positive affirmations are a powerful source of strength. Anyone can benefit from them. First, write a list of your negative thoughts, then reword each statement to reflect a positive attitude. For example, “I never win anything,” can be reworded instead to read, “I am in the process of winning a 10-speed bicycle.”

Positive Thinking Step Five: Be gentle. Creating a shift from negative thinking to positive thinking isn’t easy. Remember this when you’re having bad days (because you will have bad days!). Take it one day at a time. Baby steps, baby steps, baby steps. You’re learning and growing. Be kind to yourself as you engage in positive thinking every day.

    Beyond Positive Thinking

Life Strategies For Helping You Help Yourself

    >>  Click Here To Discover How You Can Create The Life You Want <<

On November 2nd the Larry King show on CNN was focused on the topic, “Beyond Positive Thinking.” Mr. King’s guests were John Assaraf, the Rev. Michael Beckwith, Dr. John Demartini J.Z. Knight and Bob Proctor. The basic premise of the show was that people have the power to control and to create their own reality. The panel of guests indicated that our everyday lives are controlled and created unconsciously by our subconscious mind. That, in fact, our subconscious mind is responsible for some 96% to 98% of our everyday lives. While the subconscious mind has been the controlling factor, the conscious mind has the ability to break the pattern and to dictate our reality.

The guests said that people have the ability to create and to control such things as health, abundance, relationships and literally every aspect of our being. The question was raised as to whether or not this was just a matter of reciting positive affirmations as the key to this struggle between the two aspects of our minds. All of the panelists agreed that the issue goes ‘beyond positive thinking.” In order to truly take conscious control of our life it is necessary to change our vibratory nature and to utilize the laws of physics to “attract” those things that we want to change, bring into or to remove from our lives. The notion of Quantum physics says that the entire universe, us included, are vibratory in nature and that when a person truly vibrates their thinking in a positive way, they literally attract positive things into their lives. The movie, “The Secret” was cited as being a guide as to how this process works. They could also have referenced the cult hit “What the Bleep Do We Know” as another example of scientists offering tangible proof as to how this process works.

Is any of this new? Yes and no. Mystics have long held that we do, in fact, control our reality; not just the little things in life, but everything. They have maintained that regardless of our circumstances, each person has the innate, Universe or God given ability to create or alter reality to our choosing. They say that we are not here to suffer or to live a life of misery but rather, each conflict or problem that we confront is merely an opportunity to express our ‘higher selves,’ to evolve and to alter the circumstances to our liking. They claim that there is no such thing as a God who seeks to punish and that so called errors are merely opportunities to grow. This concept only makes sense if you understand that we live countless lives and that we are evolving to a higher state of being.

These concepts, once restricted to the initiated few, came to light in the so called New Age. Voices from people such as Ram Dass, Depak Chopra, Joel Goldsmith, John Price, L. Ron Hubbard, Dr. Hew Len and countless others expressed the notion that reality is of our own making and choosing, regardless of appearances to the contrary. The basic premise is that our past conditioning should be re-evaluated and that we should ‘consciously’ determine the way in which we wish to live.

So, why all of the misery? If we have the ability to alter our reality, and the reality of the world, then why is humanity still so locked into a world of war, bigotry, disease and turmoil? Proponents of ‘beyond positive thinking’ maintain that we must take that 2-4% of conscious thought and turn that into a much higher percentage. In other words, humanity must take responsibility for its actions, individually and collectively.

The question to be raised is what is the cause of all of our negative conditioning that result in all of humanity’s woes? Those on the Larry King show did not address this issue nor where they asked by the studio audience. One guest brought up genetic disposition as a minor issue but it was not seen to be the major culprit. Since this is an opinion piece I will offer my answer that is found in our new book, WAKING GOD.

For over 2,000 years humanity has been told that it is inherently evil, doomed and basically not worth the price of its chemical composition. The ‘greatly misinterpreted’ message of great prophets in both the East and West has been so twisted that humanity is of the belief that its existence is at the whim of some vengeful god that will probably destroy, again, all of its creation because it is essentially worthless. We have been told that we are in need of salvation because there is a great evil force in the world and that we are under the control of that evil force. If we are fortunate, and follow the rules of established churches and mosques, there is a slim chance that we may not burn for eternity for our woe begotten ways. And you ask why people do not believe they can create a new reality.

On my way to work I pass numerous churches that are adorned with marquees proclaiming the ways to salvation. The one I really enjoy says, “Jesus First, Others Second, and Yourself Last.” This is supposed to be a message of hope? When we are ingrained with the myth that we are to consider ourselves last, what hope is there that we have the power to transform society? If we cannot put our own house-life-in order, how can we possibly put the world back in order? Organized religions have lulled humanity into a false reality in which man has no control over his destiny. It is only by their good graces, so we are told, that we have any hope of happiness. We are told that if we are miserable, it is because we have angered god and we deserve what we get. We are also told that the only choice that we can make is to follow their dogma and pray that it is enough to escape the eternal fires of damnation. Is it any wonder that under this cloak of doom that man has a hard time taking control of his thoughts and utilizing the divine gift of creativity? We are sick because we have sinned. We are poor because we have sinned. We are at war because we have sinned. We are unhappy because we have sinned. We are out of work because we have sinned. The list is endless.

The guests on Larry King’s show said that the only blame that we can truly place upon ourselves for the status of our lives is ignorance. We are ignorant about our abilities and we are ignorant that the Universe has given us all the opportunity to change the world by changing the way we think. I hope take the step that goes “beyond positive thinking.”

Mr. Harris is co-author of the novel, WAKING GOD, and author of the novel, A MAINE CHRISTMAS CAROL. He is a guest contributor to UPI's web site, Religion and Spirituality, maintains a blog on "All Things That Matter" and has been featured by numerous ezines. He is also a featured writer for The American Chronicle.

The Power of a Positive Affirmation

Life Strategies For Helping You Help Yourself

    >>  Click Here To Discover How You Can Create The Life You Want <<

Brainwashing is a term perceived in a negative way by most people. But you know what, I think our brains could actually do with a bit of a washing sometimes!

You see, everyone comes into this world with a clear mind, and a belief that everything is possible. All is positive and well. Remember as a child, you could do and become everything, without any boundaries! As we grow up however, we pick up beliefs, fears and limitations from our surroundings and peers that gradually form the person we are today. A lot of these beliefs unfortunately are negative and as we build our lives they limit us in our actions and being. Very often they therefore contribute to unhappiness or feeling unfulfilled in our lives and business.

It can be the smallest –seemingly harmless- remark from a mother like “just let me handle that, you are no good at that” that can convince you that you are not good at a certain task. A teacher who calls a pupil “the clumsy one” can do more harm with this remark than he realizes when repeated often enough. With every remark the belief is harnessed further in the child that it indeed is clumsy. Even though a remark is said with a smile or with the intend to be funny, it still leaves a legacy in the belief system.

This programming of course doesn’t stop at adulthood, it keeps influencing people in all stages of life. We are being influenced by our parents, kids, partner, friends, colleagues, television, newspapers, magazines and so on. Sometimes positive, but very often in a negative way. No wonder we limit ourselves in so many ways! Belief is the key to your success. If you belief you can do something, you can. If you belief you can’t do something, you will be right too.

The good news is: we can “reprogram” our mind and replace our negative, limiting beliefs for positive contributing ones. Positive brainwashing is what I like to call it! This can be done by the use of so called “affirmations”. An affirmation is a positive self talk statement, stated in the present tense that covers a goal you want to achieve and that ‘overrules’ negative beliefs towards that goal. An example is “I easily do 10 sales calls a day”. Or “I am an excellent negotiator”. By stating this positive affirmation regularly during your day, you will achieve the goal you have set for yourself easier. This positive self talk helps your mind to overcome beliefs that you have about yourself, that limit your success and actions. Compare our mind with a computer: when you change the input, the output will change accordingly.

So if you have the limiting belief that you are no good in public speaking (probably because of negative experiences in the past) you can actually reprogram your mind by stating the following affirmation: “ I am an excellent public speaker. I love to speak for huge audiences and people love to hear me talk”. By affirming this belief over and over, you actually start to believe it and your mind will find a way to make this statement a reality. At some stage, you might decide to do a course in public speaking, or someone might ask you to speak at some kind of seminar, which forces you to work on your speaking skills. Somehow, this positive affirmation help you to reach the ‘goal’ you have set for yourself, and open doors for you that would normally would have been kept closed. And this works for virtually everything. Belief, and it will happen.

Imagine standing for a big river, with a heavy stream. You have to cross it, but you don’t think you can actually do it. Your belief is keeping you from crossing, although you physically should be able to do it easily. It just looks too hard! Then someone else comes up from behind you, and without thinking starts crossing the river and gets to the other side. His belief was positive, and he knew he could do it. The interesting thing is that this will probably influence your belief: “if he can do it, I can do it too” and you will then cross the river without any problem at all. Similar things happen when a group of people is introduced to the phenomenon of fire walking. At first a big group of people will say that there is no way they will walk on fire. Until…other people with higher beliefs go first, then all of a sudden everyone else rushes over to do it as well.

So think about YOUR beliefs, and try to discover which belief are actually holding you back from reaching your full potential in your life. Then, one by one, start eliminating these beliefs from your system. Formulate a positive affirmation that counters your negative belief, and re affirm it daily. Write them in your diary, on your bathroom mirror, next to your computer; anywhere you see it often and say the affirmation out loud as often as possible. You will be happily surprised by the results!
