Attention - Why Positive Thinking Is Not Enough

Are you one of the many people who have tried positive thinking approaches in your life and then found them to have not worked for you? Have you ever sought an inner boost through positive thinking and found it has never fulfilled it's promises?

If you are one of those people then it may be because you were not aware of the one key ingredient that can turn positive thinking into your most powerful tool in getting what you want in life.

This hidden ingredient is like the missing link, the spark that ignites the fire of success or the trigger for your incredible run of achievements. This secret can bring you the next promotion at work faster, unexpected money, new romantic relationships, more friends, increased pay, improved health or indeed anything else of your choosing.

Ok, so yes I have hyped this secret ingredient up...but there is a very good reason for it. The reason is because it is what will transform your positive thoughts into a positive reality.

So, what is this secret ingredient. Well first you'll need to understand the background to this almost magic like ingredient or it will not make sense. It's success is based on the fact that we live in a vibrational universe. Every atom is vibrating at some level and that includes the cells in your body right through to the atoms in the car that you drive, everything is made up of what is basically vibrating atoms which when broken down even further is really just energy.

Vibrating energy is drawn to similar things of the same vibration, this is natures way of making life run effortlessly and smoothly. Remember then that everything has a vibration and that includes your thoughts. This means positive thoughts must attract things of the same vibrational frequency i.e. positive things. However although thoughts alone can be powerful, when they are backed with feeling and emotion they can become an enormously more powerful magnet drawing in those things of the same vibration much more quickly. That is the secret ingredient so often overlooked.

When thoughts are backed with powerful emotions they can become an irresistible force drawing the actual physical things like money and relationships into your life. This means that if you are trying to attain wealth then you must first induce positive thoughts around this subject. You might choose to do this through affirmations. However when repeating your affirmation you must find a way of charging it with emotion and feeling.

One easy way to do this is to use creative visualisation. This basically means to play an image in your mind over and over again of you actually in the position you want to be in. This could be you celebrating your promotion at work, receiving cheques through the post, scoring goals for your team or whatever else it is you want but the key is to really see yourself achieving those goals and imagining how it actually feels to be doing that thing.

Once you have generated that thought and feeling you need to hold on to it for as long as you can. This is the vibration that you need to release in to the universe to attract back those very events and things that you have imagined.... and it will. The reason that it has to is because it is law, just as in physics gravity is a law then so is this vibrational phenomenon also a law. In fact it is more commonly known as the 'law of attraction'.

I would urge you to go ahead and start charging your positive thoughts with these positive emotions and really start to attain the life you want. You are using this law every moment of your life anyway so wouldn't now be a good time to start using it to your advantage? That is what all the great leaders and scientists of yester year and today have done, so don't you think you should be doing so as well?

Practical Positive Thinking 4 - Dealing With Unemployment

Life Strategies For Helping You Help Yourself

    >>  Click Here To Discover How You Can Create The Life You Want <<

A few years after becoming professionally qualified as a management accountant in the UK, I had an opportunity to move to what seemed a great job. It was in a lovely part of the country with some attractive properties, in idyllic villages. All seemed perfect, and my years of hard work were about to reap just reward.

However, after I met my future boss for the second time, my intuition told me it was not going to work out. It was a powerful bout of negative intuition, which happens quite rarely in my life. I felt physically quite sick as my stomach told me, in no uncertain terms, that I should not take the new job, despite the higher salary, excellent benefits, and superior location.

Against my better judgement, I took the job. I set off south from Cambridgeshire, where we lived at the time, lacking the excitement and anticipation you normally associate with finding a “better” job. Within only two weeks, I knew my gut instinct had been right. I knew I had to act quickly, otherwise the following weeks and months would be a nightmare. I scribbled out my resignation letter Friday lunch time, and drove over 100 miles home.

Home was a house we had not lived in for long, with a new and high mortgage; our second child had only just arrived. I had no job and no income any more. As I drove home, my mind was in a whirl, swaying between “Thanks to God” that I am away from there, and a dark shadow of financial disaster hanging over me. Intermingling with those extremes, though, was a sense of excitement; without a job or income, what was around the corner? Where would I be in a month's time?

The next few days were a mix of worry over the financial consequences of what I had done, and the excitement of thinking “I don't have any idea what is going to happen next”. As a keen traveller in my younger years, I had always loved the idea of not knowing where I would be the next day. But this was playing with fire; a wife and two children to support, a brand new and very high mortgage.

Quickly, the positive thoughts took over, and I began to tell myself I would get an even better job; not just any job, but one that was better paid than the job I had just resigned from. Despite the severe financial pressure, my mind was most focused on the positive, although I do admit that, in the UK winter, my body was reeling a bit from the stress.

I could not actually see that I would be without a job for long, and that was what kept me going. I turned out to be right. I did get a better job, and in two quick moves of employment, had increased my income significantly.

With hindsight, I could so easily have gone a long time unemployed. Whatever your qualifications, getting a job in the UK at over 35 was not easy. However, the positive thoughts won in the end.

That experience, and those recalled in the two previous articles, are just three major examples of where positive thinking has played a major part in my life. Whether or not you can agree that positive thinking could have played a part in those events, will depend on your own belief. However, they are three reasons why positive thinking is now an every day part of my life.

Is There a Flaw in The Power of Positive Thinking

Life Strategies For Helping You Help Yourself

    >>  Click Here To Discover How You Can Create The Life You Want <<

There has been a lot of buzz about the power of positive thinking.

I think there is a misconception about positive thinking. Most people think that you have to force yourself to think positive.

I don’t know about you, but when I’m in a low mood or haven’t had enough sleep, I can be a little cranky and no positive thought can change that.

The truth is that our true nature is that of contentment and happiness and when the negative thoughts pass we return to that state.

The problem is not that we don’t think in the positive, it’s that we get caught up in our own negative thoughts.

“That's my gift. I let that negativity roll off me like water off a duck's back. If it's not positive, I didn't hear it. If you can overcome that, fights are easy.” -- George Foreman

I think like George Foreman we have to let the negative thoughts roll off of us, learn to relax and try not to think about anything, positive or negative. Just relax, take a nap or just daydream and eventually a good feeling will come back.

“When I examine myself and my methods of thought, I come to the conclusion that the gift of fantasy has meant more to me than any talent for abstract, positive thinking.” -- Albert Einstein

By the way, if you’re not in a good mood and are cranky and irritable, let those around you know. This has helped me more in my relationships than anything else.

You will see the people around you open up and relate to you instead of thinking you are attacking them. Also you start to notice when others are in a low mood and defenses drop.

Our ability to think is an amazing thing. But if I tell you to not think of a purple elephant, you will think of a purple elephant.

“I never looked at the consequences of missing a big shot . . . when you think about the consequences you always think of a negative result.” -- Michael Jordan

If you try to think positive it will seem like a chore, but if you can realize that the negative is just a thought and will eventually pass then the positive will come naturally.

Realization of your true nature is more powerful than trying to think your way out of negative thoughts. To know that thoughts are just thoughts and thoughts and the feelings that come with them will change from moment to moment, you begin to not put much emphasis on if they are positive or not. You just flow with your positive feelings and you learn to navigate through the negative ones.

It’s impossible to never have negative thoughts, but with a little understanding you can see them for what they really are… Just thoughts.

Horse Training: Teach Your Horse To Use His Hindquarters

Life Strategies For Helping You Help Yourself

    >>  Click Here To Discover How You Can Create The Life You Want <<

Wanna help your horse develop and use his hindquarters more?

Ride him up and down steep hills.

Before you do though, I suggest you have control over him. Thus, when you ask him to stop, he knows to stop.

And be sure to do it in places where you feel safest. Don't be around a bunch of wire fencing, posts, holes, etc.

Now as you go up the hill, pick a point you want to go to. Walk slowly, straight, and don't let him get chargey.

You don't want a horse to charge up hill or down because it's a great way for you to get hurt.

Remember, a horse thinks much more clearly when he's walking. And is far less to get excited when going about his work calmly.

On the other hand, you want to drive him up that hill. So you have to balance it out.

Be sure to stay in proper riding position so he can move as he needs to.

As you come down the hill, try stopping him and stay standing for a mom- ment. This'll test the control you have on him.

But remember if you stop and stand on a hill for long periods of time, turn your horse perpindicular to the hill.

As you go uphill, hold on to his mane if you need to balance yourself. Don't pull on the reins or use the saddle horn.

You will find that practicing this with your horse will help develop collection.

And speaking of collection, you can learn a lot about collection by watching horse training videos of expert horse trainers.

Positive Thinking - Winning Versus Not Losing

Life Strategies For Helping You Help Yourself

    >>  Click Here To Discover How You Can Create The Life You Want <<

Do you play to win or do you play not to lose? This difference in mental attitudes makes a huge difference in almost everything you do – from your business, to your relationships, to martial arts.

I was watching a martial arts movie and in the middle was an obligatory training session where the hero, with the help of an old teacher, recovers from a severe beating and prepares to exact his revenge on the villains.

One scene stood out in my mind for days afterwards because of his master’s comment after kicking his ass in a sparring session.

“Fear is reflected in your sword. When you dodge, you think ‘don’t cut me!’ When you protect someone, you think ‘don’t hurt them!’ Even when you attack, you are thinking ‘I don’t want to hurt you!’”

“What do I think? When I dodge – ‘you will NOT hit me!’ When I protect someone – ‘you will NOT hurt them!’ And when I attack – ‘DIE!’”

    Negative and fearful thinking

Does this apply to you and your life? You get what your predominant thoughts are on. This applies in any endeavour we can undertake. For example, in my boxing training, this was exactly the way I sparred. I boxed in fear – I boxed not to lose, and although I got out uninjured, I didn’t win either. Many fighters in the combat sports like Mixed Martial Arts or Boxing have the same mindset; and they don’t often reach the upper ranks.

What about relationships? I remember approaching a pretty young woman that caught my eye in a bar, and I didn’t do very well. My friend saw the whole event. He said that it was obvious in my body language that I didn’t commit. In a way, I rejecting myself, I was preparing for failure. If you prepare for failure, if fear of failure dominates your actions and your thoughts, what do you think will happen?

The same applies to careers and finances. When I started my first enterprise years ago, my mindset was ‘hope I don’t go broke’. Can you guess if I did well in the first year?

Committing to win and burning all bridges

The moment a person decides to fully commit to a venture, and burns all the bridges behind him so he or she has no way of turning back, the whole situation changes.

Examples of this philosophy abound. Napoleon Hill in his landmark book “Think and Grow Rich” gives several examples of this in a financial setting, and goes so far to state that a man cannot fail if he decides to fully commit.

Among many martial arts teachings, this dynamic is also prominent. The immortal Bruce Lee describes it as “emotional content”. A kick with emotional content will have more power then a kick without the same, even though the body mechanics may be the same. There is a now famous scene in Enter the Dragon, where he shows a young student the way. In it, he also cautions – Do not confuse emotional content with anger.

Remember that business venture I mentioned in the section above? I’m still in that enterprise, but I’ve shifted my thinking. Now I’m out to win, I’m out to succeed. Externally, the actions are the same. I’m doing the same form of marketing, I’m meeting clients the same way, and my prices are the same. But the money and clients are coming in far quicker then in my old way of thinking.

    Implementation

This is one facet of positive thinking. Positive thinking is our natural state. Fearful or negative thinking dominates most the minds of most people. That is a bad habit that covers up our natural joy of life.

Making the switch to positive thinking takes much effort. We ingrain this habit so deeply into ourselves over the years that it’s hard to catch yourself when you are thinking negatively.

Remember that your predominant mental attitude is what produces results. You will not get positive results with 10 minutes of positive thinking and happiness if you spend the entire day in worry, regret, and fear.

While there are many tools to master your thoughts, such as meditation, I recommend starting with this aspect of positive thinking. If you still catch yourself making negative thoughts, break it down even further. Pick one area of your life that you want to improve. For example, if you are single and lonely. Enjoy your aloneness, or go out and meet new people, but do so with an attitude of joy.

If you catch yourself thinking “Oh, I’m so shy I can’t meet anyone”, immediately switch to the opposite thought, but making sure to acknowledge your shyness – don’t deny it. “I’m shy, but I’m going to smile and talk to someone and enjoy myself.” Say this often enough and it will be your new mental habit, replacing the old. Then watch your whole life change before your eyes.

If there are emotions accompanying your negative thoughts, you might want to try some of the articles in the section at www.urbanmonk.net.

Positive Thinking For Your Golf Game

Life Strategies For Helping You Help Yourself

    >>  Click Here To Discover How You Can Create The Life You Want <<

Here's a little known secret on how to instantly improve your golf game without a lesson or new golf equipment.

Filling your mind with positive thoughts and encouraging beliefs can empower you to play better golf than what you have been playing. Even if you've never tried this, or can not release your full potential, you will actually see and feel yourself making improvements in your golf game. Using positive thinking to improve your golf game or your life can be...life changing.

When you use positive thoughts, words, images that are conducive towards your growth and use them for the betterment of your game, you're using positive thinking. Positive thinking on the golf course involves using positive affirmations and visualizations. Your goal is to eliminate any negativity in your mind. This is critical for you to do before you step into your pre-shot routine. If you are visualizing the ball curving off into the trees yet again, your result will probably be just that.

Even though many golfers have heard about the benefits of positive thinking to improve their golf scores or have seen partners that have had success, sadly, they still haven't tried the idea to bring improvement to their games. The problem with the golfers is that they are not informed enough to make a sound judgement and have not even tried the method of positive thinking in their games. It amazes me that people that can run huge businesses and corporations, and have had success at it, seem puzzled with the concept of positive thinking on the golf course. There are numerous articles, books, lectures, and papers written on the subject. Positive thinking on the golf course can be the major factor to bringing more success to everyone's golf game.

Positive Thinking Is More An Attitude Than A Characteristic

Life Strategies For Helping You Help Yourself

    >>  Click Here To Discover How You Can Create The Life You Want <<

We tend to think that positive thinking means a radiant person who always looks confident, but it does not need so. Positive thinking is to think any things that can help you solve the problems you get, think of any benefits or lessons you can get from any things you don't like.

Seek and you will find, seek anything that is valuable and you will find, for example you may learn a lesson from one bad investment. But if you focus on complaining, what you get is just thoughts that can not help you.

Why I say positive thinking is not the privilege for those radiant people?

For example, if you have a project to do, you feel nervous and fear you will not do well, that is not called negative thinking in my opinion, but rather called cautious. Because you take time to prepare, think of any events that may happen so you'll be more confident, and the endeavors you put helps. And what he will do next is to convey his ideas and deliberations, he will try to talk in a nice way that other people can perceive, he will smile and talk as if he already thought of any possibilities.

And guess what other people may think? "He looks very confident!" Although he may feel quite nervous before the presentation.

    T. Harv Eker said, "Rich and successful people have fear, rich and success people have downs, rich and successful people have worries, they just don't let the feelings stop them"

And many comedy actors confessed that they really feel quite anxious before the show, but when they stand on the stage, they just concentrate on their performance, and leave us a wonderful show. What kind of thinking may not help is, for example, complaining others or just wanting to evade the troubles.

With this perspective, positive thinking is a kind of habits everyone can develop, even if you feel you are not a confident person right now, because it is just an attitude, not your inborn characteristic.

    The Case Against Positive Thinking

Life Strategies For Helping You Help Yourself

    >>  Click Here To Discover How You Can Create The Life You Want <<

Positive thinking as thought and practice by many people is actually not as dangerous as negative thinking. But it has it downsides. You have been reading and hearing from many people that thoughts are powerful. But the thing that you will have to know is that it is not totally powerful. There is another aspect which you have to know and it is the reality.

For example, you can try to think of turning a page in the newspaper. You can think for the next 10 years and you will still not be able to turn a page in the newspaper. Thoughts are powerful but you must also realize the reality. There is a lot of power in your physical ability too.

If you do not know how to differentiate the reality and the thoughts, you will go through a stage of denying the truth of what’s actually happening for a mental image which you find more pleasant.

For example you have cut on your forehead. The positive thinker might say to you that your head is fine and you should just think of that cut as a illusion. But in actual fact, you have a cut and that is the reality. But what you can do is that to wipe up the wound and have a positive thinking that the wound will heal faster.

Having a positive thinking is important but we must also be aware of our reality. If you know how to balance between reality and positive thinking, you will be able to achieve the dreams and goals that you want.

    Why Positive Thinking Doesn't Work!

Life Strategies For Helping You Help Yourself

    >>  Click Here To Discover How You Can Create The Life You Want <<

There was someone I used to work with who, well aware
of their tendency to look at the negative side of things,
used to constantly tell themselves to "think more
    positively".

This was said with such a feeling of desperation that I just
knew that not only would they NOT think positively, they
would probably go even further into negative thinking. The
mere fact that they kept pushing themselves to "think
    positively"
was a sign that this would ultimately be
    counterproductive.

So many of us have interpreted the desire to be positive
thinkers in a very narrow and ultimately ineffective way.
The push to be positive often results in ignoring our
true feelings. Instead of recognizing that we don't always
feel positive and learning how to convert and turn round our
feelings, it so often ends up with us denying them
    altogether.

The Law of Attraction, as defined by Abraham Hicks states
that "you attract to yourself what you give your attention
and energy to, whether wanted or unwanted".

One reason why positive thinking doesn't work is that our
focus is in the wrong place. So we say "I don't want to be
ill" and believe that this thought will prevent us from
being ill. So where is our focus? On being ill!
Because the Universe doesn't recognize "not" or "don't".
How many times have you told yourself NOT to forget
something and then what happens? Oops you've forgotten it!

Another reason why positive thinking doesn't work is that we
often veil our negative feelings with a positive surface.
So we say "I want a loving relationship". Sounds good
right? Except that underneath there is the hidden message
that having a loving relationship wouldn't even be an issue
    - unless you'd been in one or a series of not so loving
    relationships.

So it's the hidden message and negative feeling around it,
that is still coming through. Ultimately, you're still
pushing against something and it's still
counterproductive. You're likely to attract more unloving
relationships, even though you THINK you've stated
    otherwise.

How can you begin to reverse this? Rather than focusing on
your thoughts, focus on your feelings about a given
situation or what you would like the situation to be. Start
to visualise and sense what you truly desire. Focus on
ramping up good, positive, energetic feelings about what
you desire, rather than the thought.

Practically you can do this by building a "creation box" of
pictures, ideas, notes, to stimulate your imagination of how
you'd like things to be. Appreciating lifes abundance in
what you already have by keeping an appreciation journal,
feeling and acting like the prosperous person you actually
are and channelling your good feelings into what you desire.

In fact, instead of being a positive thinker, aim to become
a positive feeler - it's much more visceral and real. Live
your life as though you already have what you desire and
you'll make way for it to come to you.

    Does Positive Thinking Really Work?

Life Strategies For Helping You Help Yourself

    >>  Click Here To Discover How You Can Create The Life You Want <<

You've probably heard self-improvement authors and speakers extol the virtues of "positive thinking".

The idea is that in order to succeed at something, we must first think positive -- we must convince ourselves that we can do it. Even better, we should visualize ourselves doing it.

Well, I'm no psychologist, and I reckon positive thinking (and visualization) is helpful.

But I DON'T think positive thinking alone is any more effective than negative thinking.

    What really works?

    Positive ACTION.

And frankly, you can think NEGATIVE all you want... but if you still ACT... you'll be light-years ahead of anyone who does nothing except think positive thoughts.

    Want proof?

Well, let me ask you this: have you ever been disappointed? Have you ever been pleasantly surprised?

Both situations are where what actually happened was totally different to what you thought would happen.

When you were disappointed -- your expectations were dashed. When you were pleasantly surprised, your expectations were exceeded.

Happens all the time. That's why I don't believe positive or negative thinking are absolutely essential to success or failure. Otherwise there would be no such concept as "surprise".

Positive action -- actually doing something no matter whether or not you think it'll work -- is what really makes the difference.

I need only think back to the time I was somehow persuaded to run in my first running race. I dreaded it. I thought I would come last. My head was filled with NEGATIVE thoughts.

But I did it anyway. And you know what -- I was not only among the first across the line, but I fell in LOVE with racing!

Now I don't want you to think negative. In fact, I want you to be as positive as possible. I want you to visualize yourself succeeding. Not because I think these are necessary preconditions for success -- but because if you think positive you're MORE LIKELY TO ACT.

Chronic negative thinking is likely to plant so many doubts and fears in your head that you are far more likely to associate failure with your goal than success... and, as a result, give up rather than go ahead. It's also a pretty unhappy state to be in.

But regardless of how you think... JUST DO IT!

By doing it you're way more likely to convince yourself that you CAN do it than merely imagining yourself doing it. And of course, doing it is the ONLY way you'll actually achieve the success you want.

By all means, think positive. But most of all ACT.

Knowing the Power of Positive Thinking

Life Strategies For Helping You Help Yourself

    >>  Click Here To Discover How You Can Create The Life You Want <<

In the self-help and wellness industry, a mission has been designed to aid those around us to be more fulfilled, more joyful, more confident…you name it. The adage, think positive, be positive is one that millions of people have taken on, at least in thought. And though positive thinking can certainly push aside our negative thought patterns that spiral us to a sense of low self-esteem, helplessness, hopelessness and a pattern of feeling stuck or trapped in a life we would like to change, thinking alone will not help.

Without action, your thoughts are merely stepping stones to a dream. ~Gina Kovacs

Sound simple? Because it is. Wherever your thoughts lay will certainly manifest itself by words and deeds. To take a big step forward, begin by changing your thoughts, your words and your actions.

I have a client who would like to lose ten pounds. She would like to be, in effect, thinner. In asking her how she would feel by losing ten pounds, she explained she would feel healthy, fit, and attractive. “On top of her game”; I was excited for her. Being “on top of your game” and saying you are on top of your game means that anything you say and do has to be that in which you are on top of your game. Would a person who sees themselves on top of their game eat a Big Mac, French fries and Coke? I doubt it.

When an aspect of your life is at a point when you can’t stand the frustrations of it one moment longer, you are ready for that change. Let’s take losing weight for example. When you are at a point that you can not stand looking in the mirror, angry at the fact that you can not get into your jeans, and frustrated to even look at those infomercials that show before and afters for the hundredth time of people who have successfully achieved their goals, you are at a pivot point for change.

Remember: If someone at any time has ever done whatever it is you would like to accomplish, then you can do it too.

When you have a direction and are excited about that direction, that pivot point has power. Don’t ever think for one moment that you can not make changes in your life that will gain you greater confidence, fulfillment, and inner peace. One small step can begin a domino effect. It’s that simple.

Life coaching has helped many people reach their goals. My company, Living by Design, is the product of my own experiences and of those around me. We are in a world of radical change. If we don’t take the time to stop, take a moment to really look at our life and make the changes needed in order to have the most joyful and exhilarating experience possible, life will surely pass us by in a blink and we will have missed out on what “could have been”.

If you are at a pivot point ready for change in any area of your life or would like to learn more about how you can begin to live your life by your design, please contact me @ 373-2815 or @ gina@livingalifebydesign.com

4 Simple Techniques for Positive Thinking

Life Strategies For Helping You Help Yourself

How to improve your life forever

Have you always wanted something ? Have you always felt that something was missing but you didn't know what ? Have you aimed for goals and fallen short. Like many of us you have probably fallen into a depressive slump and given up any hope of improving your life. The subject of self improvement is a vast one, and there are many things to learn. Yet, it is those first early steps that give the most back and provide the most improvement to our lives. Therefore, it is important to start out with a technique that gives you the best grounding to work from and will be fairly easy to master. If someone offered you such a system, would you follow it through or abandon it half way ?

The power of positive thinking is something that is widely known, although often forgotten about. Apparently depressive people see the world in a much more realistic way when considering the present. An optimist does not have a realistic view. Where the depressive looes is the point at which they take their depressive view of 'today' and expand it out to the future. A depressive creates an uncompelling view of the future - one in which they make reasonable demands and expect a large amount of disappointment. Like a self fulfilling prophecy they are usually right.

The optimist, using techniques for positive thinking, sees the potential in everything. He creates a compelling future that drives him forward and provides motivation. He gives himself clear, inspiring goals and desires that fuel his actions. He is stretched by the challenges of what the depressive would call ' unrealistic goals'. This challenge forces growth, a key factor in true happiness, further empowering the optimist on towards his goals. When he does get beaten, he realises that he is merely being told 'try again but be more inventive'. Fueled by his imagination, the optimist creates his own future.

As we can see the power of positive thinking is a valuable tool, one which can be used to change lives and make dreams reality. Yet, as with many things, there are surprisingly few basic, down to earth practical sources of information on how to master positive thinking. I am sure you do not want to be without the advantages it can bring and no doubt you have encountered, vague, imprecise guidelines to positive thinking that you have quickly abandoned. For those who feel that they can stick to four basic principles for at least a year they will be astounded at the changes that such simple techniques can bring. I now present to you the four basic principles of positive thinking:

    1) You are not your personality.

Your personality is not you. You were probably different as a child than you are today. Sure, there will be a kernel of similarity, but much of what you do, day to day, is not your personality, even though you may call it that. Instead, your so-called personality is a collection of habits formed out of experiences as a defence mechanism for coping with day to day life. Your imagined personality can hold you back in life because it defines what you will do and what you are unwilling or incapable of doing. A woman may feel she cannot be an effective public speaker because she has been shy all her life. This is simply not true, she merely needs to learn what makes an effective public speaker and adopt those mannerisms herself.

To be truly effective in terms of positive thinking you must accept the notion, that whatever age you are, you are not a fixed concept. You can be what you want to be. OFten we want to do things that seem at odds with what we feel comfortable with. We tell ourselves that we could never go skydiving or such like. These contrary desires are so important. You should take hold of them and make them reality. They are your mind's way of trying to increase its exposure to new things, to break out of the prison you call personality.

Today, pick one thing that you have never done but have always been curious about. Make a list of a months worth of activities that you feel you may not be capable of. Run a marathon, join the local drama club, spend a whole day outdoors without checking in with the office. You will be amazed at how empowered you feel - and it will give you further motivation to push back your so called identity.

    2) Learn how to motivate yourself.

Many of us feel that we are at the whim of the day. On a good day we will do well, and on a bad day we will be unmotivated, will procrastinate and achieve little. You must accept the concept that your day is yours to control, you are at the whim of circumstance only in so much as you choose to respond to circumstance. Planning ahead, can provide security through contingency plans to deal with the so called unexpected. For those issues that keep coming up, see if there is a way to solve them permanently. Once you have reduced circumstance as much as possible you must then identify the next largest area of de motivation.

For many of us, particularly those new to self improvement, our emotions are what control our day. Or rather, our lack of ability to direct our own feelings. Motivation comes from knowing we have a task that will challenge us, is not insurmountable, and will provide a valuable outcome. By ensuring all of your major tasks fit into these categories you will help to unleash the motivation found within your daily activities.

Secondly, arrange your office in such a way as to cut down on distractions. Have a ready supply of water nearby, fresh pens and pencils and paper. Ensure that there as few distractions as possible. Once you have done this, you can focus on ways to improve your own mood - perhaps have a play list of your favourite uplifting songs. Have a to do list of your day's tasks, that are prioritised, and tick them off as you progress though them. Having a written record of your completions is a great way to build confidence in being able to finish tasks.

Once you can plan work for the day ahead and use the power of those tasks to motivate yourself you will feel much more in control in your work environment. This extra security will help build your self confidence and help you to see things more positively.

Make a list of tasks today and see how you can drive your motivation.

    3) Be confident of who you are becoming.

Sometimes people may ,knowingly or unknowingly, put you down. They may make you feel self conscious about your spelling, your weight or your lack of confidence. At the time these insult may sting and cause deep pain and ruin your day or maybe even longer. They lower your perception of your own self worth and cause a negative spiral that sabotages any positive thinking. Rather than focus on why the other person did what they did, I would like you not to be a victim and to focus on something else. Being a victim can never ever create a positive outcome. It embodies feelings of helplessness and being subject to the whims of others. If there is any way that you can avoid feelings of victim hood and use the criticism in a positive way you should.

You are probably thinking - thats easy to say - but what is positive about being called 'insert insult'. I think that you should use such criticism as fuel, fuel to prove the other person wrong - to understand that who you are today doesn't have to be who you are tomorrow, or next week or next year.

If you yourself are unhappy with what they criticised, then decide if now is the time to do something about it, and to dwarf the critical negative person with the strength of your own personal power. People who criticise often love to feel that you will always be whatever be afflicted by whatever problem they perceive or 'want to perceive'. If you can change it shows to yourself and to the world that you can become whatever you want to be. Don't let others or yourself define you a static unchanging being who will always be burdened with the same afflictions.

    4) Create the future - commit to yourself.

Imagine its a month from now. You have worked on the three ideas above and are seeing results. Now that you are learning to tackle you own problems, can motivate yourself to an extent and can push your own boundaries - its time to create your own future. A future that is so far from where you were a month ago, or even today, that to contemplate it before would have been unthinkable. Perhaps you would like to be a model, lose weight, or greatly increase your income. Maybe you want to walk the stage of some famous theatre, or begin an acting career. Look twenty years in the future, and decide where you would like to be, regardless of feasibility, or outrageousness. Then fix this vision into concrete statements, such as I will weight twenty pounds less, or I will drive an Aston Martin.

Now take these facts and visualise in your mind a scene, which illustrates all of these things. Imagine your future self in the scene, looking radiant and happy. Now make the image bigger, and the colours brighter, smile to yourself, and press your thumb and forefinger together. Do this visualisation technique every day, as many times as you remember to. Always press together your thumb and finger as you smile and imagine yourself stepping into the image and it coming to life. By doing this, we are anchoring your desire for the future to a physical action. From this point on, whenever you feel insecure or demotivated, press your thumb and forefinger together and you will get a surge of energy and happiness.

The next step is to plan out how you will achieve you goals over the coming months and weeks and years. Take a look at when you want to achieve your goal and then step backwards adding key points that will mark your progress. These point should contain sub goals that will help bring your major goal to life.

If you follow these four simple steps, and repeat them day in day out, for a month, you will rapidly begin to see changes in your life. When I did these things myself several years ago, I began to see changes in my life that were for the better. Bizarrely, I did not associate these positive changes with the daily actions I was taking. Looking back, it was the daily repetition of the above tasks that really helped turn my life around.

The Flagrant Abuse Of Positive Thinking

Life Strategies For Helping You Help Yourself

    >>  Click Here To Discover How You Can Create The Life You Want <<

Do you remember Admiral James Stockdale, the guy who was Ross Perot’s Vice Presidential candidate in ‘the ‘92 election?

If you don’t, don’t worry too much… he didn’t fare so well as a VP candidate or in politics for that matter, but he was quite an impressive military man. He was former president of the Naval War College and was the highest ranking officer in the “Hanoi Hilton” in Vietnam.

He happened to spend eight long years as a captive in Hanoi and was tortured numerous times.

    Mr. Thomas Barnett relates:

"Stockdale tells the story of the optimists who never survived their time in Hanoi, simply because they clung far too much to their dreams of release and in doing so couldn’t handle the brutal realities of what it took to survive the day to day.

“So instead of dealing with the here and now realistically, they tended to cling to the hope that they’d be home by whatever the next holiday was, and when that day came and went, their spirit would be diminished by that measure.

“Over time, they died because their spirit was extinguished by reality.”

Stockdale’s explains his “paradox” this way:

“You must never confuse faith that you will prevail in the end (which you can never afford to lose) with the discipline to confront the most brutal facts of your current reality, whatever they might be.”

What Stockdale was really describing is the flagrant abuse of ‘positive thinking.’

And you know what? A lot of exercisers and fat loss candidates are really just too optimistic. Worse yet, the weight loss pitchmen exploit this and sell ridiculously unrealistic plans to starry-eyed people.

    What a shame.

I seriously doubt anything you ever face in the exercise world will be as dreadful as the Hanoi Hilton. Still, nothing can be worse for you than to walk into battle with a plastic sword and helmet, and then get cut down with tanks and machine guns.

    You wanna survive… then thrive…

Here are some wise precautions that will prepare you for adversity and ensure your success:

    • Understand that everything isn’t going to happen all at once and sudden change isn’t necessarily a good thing.
    • Assume that every ‘new’ product or supplement will not be on the market in a year because of faulty claims
    • Assume that you will be able to find that ‘new’ ab thingy in a someone’s yard sale in 6 months
    • Assume that some days aren’t going to allow you the time to exercise - so start working out in the morning

A positive attitude can take you places. However, don’t let it be a substitute for you taking an accurate picture of your current reality in the process.

You can change your reality through time and effort with the help of positive thinking. But… positive thinking alone won’t help you. In fact, as we’ve seen above, it can actually be detrimental to your success.

Brad Howard's Fat Loss Black Book delves into the "meat and potatoes" of all of the misinformation generated by the diet and fitness industry today.

An industry veteran for years, his fat loss guide completely shatters all of the myths and misguided, outdated advice being propagated today.

Positive Thinking - Success Is Not A Secret

Life Strategies For Helping You Help Yourself

    >>  Click Here To Discover How You Can Create The Life You Want <<

Whether a person will become successful actually starts with his state of mind.

    You are what you think.

    Positive thinkingis a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Our mind believes in what we tell it. When we keep telling ourselves something repeatedly now and then, it somehow gets itself registered in our brain. Step by step, our mind learns to accept and slowly believes in it. Eventually, we will become what we have been telling ourselves.

When your thoughts and beliefs are positive, you will attract more positive circumstances or products into your life and success is just a step away. Success is not a secret that avails to only an elite few. It can be achieved by anyone at any time.

How can this happen? Goals and success are not and certainly cannot be achieved overnight.

It is actually the power of our own beliefs that is working. In other words, it is the power of our positive thinking.

Simply put, when we feed our brain with something, we begin to attract what we keep thinking about. Once our brain has accepted and digested the information, it will command our body to act. The actions are usually instigated by our belief. It is because we actually believe in it that our bodies are moving in momentum with our thoughts. The only variability is the strength of our belief. If our belief is durable and strong, our brains are most likely going to act on it.

Every action will be met with a balanced reaction. Any action we take will create some kind of consequence or circumstance. We must think positively so as to maintain our belief and desire to succeed. What we manifest will gradually be turned into our reality and eventually it will also create our destiny.

However, all worthwhile achievements take time. Once a vision has been set as a permanent fixture into our positive thoughts, we must cultivate the fortitude of consistence and persistence in our efforts. Everyday, our actions will shape or mould our reality according to what we want it to be. These steps will take us closer towards getting our crystalline goals.

Be prepared that lots of work and efforts have to be put in. It is not going to be an easy path. There will be obstacles and failures along the road to success. You must treat these hurdles as opportunities to learn. You have to overcome them and do not let them slow down your progress. Gradually with time, you will attract positive circumstances, encounters, ideas and even people who can and will assist you to soar towards your goals.
