Does negative thinking pay? Is it desirable for me to encourage thoughts in my mind that break down, hinder, and incapacitate me for good work? Do I want negative thoughts that inevitably bring discontent, unhappiness, and ultimate failure in their train?

Your answer will be, of course, that you do not want them. But such thoughts work insidiously, and will find an entrance into your mind if you are not extremely vigilant. The surest way to keep them out, however, is to fill the mind completely with vital positive thoughts, to think constantly of yourself as a man of unlimited possibilities, growing daily in mental and spiritual power, equipped for great things, a necessary part of God's glorious creation, and moving forward toward a triumphant and immortal destiny.

It is difficult to construct positive thoughts out of the poor stuff from which dreams are made. A man should devote himself particularly to the practical things of life. Some men learn this lesson all too late, for, as Thoreau says, "Youth gets together the materials for a bridge to the moon, and maturity uses them to build a wood-shed."

The habit of right thinking, when firmly established, becomes a source of attraction. Good thoughts soon become great thoughts, and the mature mind attempts even the impossible. The power of a single thought at the beginning of a day can hardly be estimated. It can change despondency into hope, and fear into courage. It can nerve the arm for great and noble deeds. It can strengthen a weak and timid character into four-fourths of a man. It is possible for it to set in motion an influence that will reach the ends of the world.

The importance of right thinking is its effect upon right doing. How many disastrous mistakes are made for lack of proper thought? How many of life's failures are due to a careless and unwise selection of a business or profession?

It was Sidney Smith who said: "If we represent the occupations of life by holes in a table, some round, some square, some oblong, and persons by bits of wood of like shapes, we shall generally find that the triangular person has got into the square hole, the oblong into the triangular, while the square person has squeezed himself into the round hole."

Right thinking means that which constructs, strengthens, and ennobles. It means better manhood, the pluck to do and to dare, and the heroism of mighty endeavor. It knows no limitation, but reaches out daily for new conquests. It is a power unto itself, growing through its own use.

    I believe you must have heard umpteen times people telling you to have positive thinking in order to succeed in life. I’m a firm believer of that as well. In fact, I’m also a practitioner of positive thinking. However, positive thinking have it’s pitfalls as well. Understanding it pitfalls will prevent you from falling in it, causing you to drift away from your success. Below are just a few: Pitfall 1 of positive thinking :

    Think and no actions – When I first started out developing the habit of positive thinking, I’ll always tell myself that my situation will be better, I’ll be able to make more money, I’ll be able to solve any problems. And life goes on. Everyday, I’ll tell myself the same things, and after a while, I realized that I’m still at the starting point. The reason lies in thinking and no actions. Taking massive actions after your positive assurance will bring you closer to success. By merely positive thinking won’t.

    Harnessing the power of positive thinking together with taking massive actions. When you start taking actions to overcome your obstacles that lies in between you and your success requires a lot of energy. When you’re face with an obstacles, use the power of positive thinking to open your mind, tapping your creativity in getting the problem solved.

    Pitfall 2 of positive thinking :The ostrich mentality –

    Someone once told me that when the male ostrich encountered any hunters, it will eventually put its head into the sand, believing that if they can’t see the hunters, they’re safe. I’ve to admit I used to be an ostrich. And it brought me to nowhere. Hiding away from issues, and believing that it’ll go away will not help you inch closer to your success.

    Facing the issue face-to-face will allow you to learn how to handle such issues in the near future, gaining precious experience. Instead of misuing the power of positive thinking, making yourself believing that the issue will go away, tackle the issue head on. And leverage the power of positive thinking to propel yourself forward, giving you an extra boost of energy to tackle the issue head on.

    The power of positive thinking can give you leverage, providing additional booster to propel you towards your success. It can also deter you from advancing forward. Don’t misuse the power of positive thinking. Learn to make full use of it, and I’ll see you at the end of your success path!

    Does Positive Thinking Really Work?

    You've probably heard self-improvement authors and speakers extol the virtues of "positive thinking".

    The idea is that in order to succeed at something, we must first think positive -- we must convince ourselves that we can do it. Even better, we should visualize ourselves doing it.

    Well, I'm no psychologist, and I reckon positive thinking (and visualization) is helpful.

    But I DON'T think positive thinking alone is any more effective than negative thinking.

    What really works?

    Positive ACTION.

    And frankly, you can think NEGATIVE all you want... but if you still ACT... you'll be light-years ahead of anyone who does nothing except think positive thoughts.

    Want proof?

    Well, let me ask you this: have you ever been disappointed? Have you ever been pleasantly surprised?

    Both situations are where what actually happened was totally different to what you thought would happen.

    When you were disappointed -- your expectations were dashed. When you were pleasantly surprised, your expectations were exceeded.

    Happens all the time. That's why I don't believe positive or negative thinking are absolutely essential to success or failure. Otherwise there would be no such concept as "surprise".

    Positive action -- actually doing something no matter whether or not you think it'll work -- is what really makes the difference.

    I need only think back to the time I was somehow persuaded to run in my first running race. I dreaded it. I thought I would come last. My head was filled with NEGATIVE thoughts.

    But I did it anyway. And you know what -- I was not only among the first across the line, but I fell in LOVE with racing!

    Now I don't want you to think negative. In fact, I want you to be as positive as possible. I want you to visualize yourself succeeding. Not because I think these are necessary preconditions for success -- but because if you think positive you're MORE LIKELY TO ACT.

    Chronic negative thinking is likely to plant so many doubts and fears in your head that you are far more likely to associate failure with your goal than success... and, as a result, give up rather than go ahead. It's also a pretty unhappy state to be in.

    But regardless of how you think... JUST DO IT!

    By doing it you're way more likely to convince yourself that you CAN do it than merely imagining yourself doing it. And of course, doing it is the ONLY way you'll actually achieve the success you want.

    By all means, think positive. But most of all ACT.

    Most people must already be well aware of what is the power of positive thinking. In any case, for those who are not conversant about what is the power of positive thinking, one can safely say that it is certainly not thinking negatively, but rather being able to perceive a half empty cup as being half full. It is not uncommon to talk to other people in a positive way and act like a person who is of the half full type of cup, rather than a person of the half empty variety.

    We all must be aware of the law of attraction, which can show us how to feel positively about a certain topic or subject and it is these thoughts within us that influence how we feels, which is what makes us get attracted to something that we desire.     So, to harness the power of positive thinking and be full of optimism and have a bright outlook requires paying close attention to your innermost thoughts and being able to focus on being aware of these thoughts and learning to direct them in a direction where they are most needed, which is really a manifestation of feeling positive rather than negative. Having a positive attitude and being attentive to positive thoughts isn't something that is taught to us as children and it is not a natural expression of our inner self. In fact, it is common to be careful about what we are saying and not pay enough attention to what are our thoughts.

    Being full of enthusiasm is a good beginning and having an action plan and being attentive to one's inner and power filled thoughts is as important as the actions that we perform. After all positive thinking will surely help create positive results and it is highly recommended to think carefully about one's feelings so that it points one in the direction of one's goals and helps us achieve them, even if they are not business related.

    Positive thinking is a mental attitude which can help us manage to overcome life obstacles and to make our dreams come true. It is a mental attitude which can help us accomplish great results. A positive thinking anticipates happiness, joy, health. Through positive thinking we can initiate great actions and have exceptional accomplishments.

    Not everyone accepts and believes in positive thinking. Some believe it is nonsense; others make fun of those who believe in it. Also, among the ones who believe in positive thinking, many do not know how to use it efficiently for their benefit. This subject has become more and more popular, numerous books and articles debate around positive thinking and its importance in our career and life.

    Very frequently we can hear the advice "Think Positively! Be Optimistic!" for those in need, depressed and worried. Many do not take this advice, as they think it makes no sense and that it is not useful and efficient. How many people really think: "What can positive thinking do for me?"

    First, both positive thinking and negative thinking are "contagious". Through our own way of thinking, of reacting and of acting, we all have a way of influencing ourselves - physically and psychically - as well as influencing the ones around us. This is happening instinctively, in the back of our mind, through the impact of our own thoughts, emotions and feelings over our life, as well as through the transfer of these thoughts and emotions to the ones close to us.     Negative thoughts, words and attitudes produce negative feelings and actions. When we have negative thoughts, the body releases some un-healthy substances into our blood, causing even more unhappiness and negativity. Negative thinking uses all of our energy, generating chain reactions and bad decisions, disappointment, failure and even bad health.

    To have a positive thinking, we have to practice, practice and practice. Our attitude and thoughts can not dramatically change over night. But the benefits could be amazing: optimists and positive thinkers have better health, enjoy stronger relationships, experience less stress and have a more productive life and career. The power of our mind is amazing and it basically drives our life.

    Those who habitually practice positive thinking have more accomplishments in life, which can reduce the stress levels. Make a conscious effort to think about positive and benefit situations. Use positive words, smile and smile, and never give up! Try to look at the glass half full instead of half empty, and soon the glass will fill-up. Do this consciously, expect only positive results, believe in yourself and your abilities, and you will experienc.

    Become positive in every situation, I know this may sound slightly mad and you are probably saying to yourself yes but if. Take it from me regardless of what happens in life you can take positive's from your experiences.

    Heres an example when we were children at some point we were confronted with something hot, hot water, fire, an oven and the chances are that as a child you will have been burnt on something, It could be said that getting burnt was a bad experience and you could have a negative view of it, then again the positive way to look at it is that now you know what the feeling is like and will take more care in the future, this is what i mean by using negative things and creating positive thoughts from them. If you are in a position where your life is out of control and it seems that every day is a bad day look for the good points as a way forward, the future can be a very clear exciting prospect if the right frame of mind is adopted, on those bad days look to the future and the experiences you are having will stand you in good stead.

    using your positive mind creatively well this has to be when you think to yourself about the future by being creative in your mind you will feel that anything is a possibility. I design Womens clothing and especially this time of year when the new ranges are coming out it good to be thinking positively that the next design is one of my best, sure this doesn't happen all the time but you learn more as you go along new techniques etc, using new materials etc but It wouldn't work If i wasn't positive. You will become a happier person the more you look at things in a positive way a few years ago I was married to the wrong person It was a time n my life when I thought that things were never going to get better and there was no way out, I look back at it now and what was so important then is so minor now, I moved on and found a ew life, but at the same time using the experience as a way of monitoring my way now. Being positive regardless of all the negativity around you will get you through and will be guiding your ship towards safe waters. The amazing part of this is that the more you do it the better things seem, and it becomes second nature, There's the added benefit of you always smiling.

    Did you know that you have more influence in your own life than any other person? Your thoughts are controlled by you. So how do you take control and start thinking positive every day? Follow these five steps:

    Positive Thinking Step One: Reframe the picture. Many times, we meet certain circumstances with clouded vision. We base our present and future experiences on the past. If something similar recently went wrong, then we automatically expect the same results. Reframe the picture. How can you look at this situation differently?

    Positive Thinking Step Two: Ask for support. While the choice is ultimately yours to think positive every day, you can ask for support. Sometimes it’s difficult to see your way out of something if all you can see are the bad things. When you find yourself in this position, turn to a supportive friend and ask for their perspective. Occasionally you need a little help from others.

    Positive Thinking Step Three: Be brave. You might be thinking to yourself that positive thinking every day for you just isn’t possible. I disagree. You have to be brave and do what you haven’t done before. Make a conscious effort to change your thinking.

    Positive Thinking Step Four: Use positive affirmations. Positive affirmations are a powerful source of strength. Anyone can benefit from them. First, write a list of your negative thoughts, then reword each statement to reflect a positive attitude. For example, “I never win anything,” can be reworded instead to read, “I am in the process of winning a 10-speed bicycle.”

    Positive Thinking Step Five: Be gentle. Creating a shift from negative thinking to positive thinking isn’t easy. Remember this when you’re having bad days (because you will have bad days!). Take it one day at a time. Baby steps, baby steps, baby steps. You’re learning and growing. Be kind to yourself as you engage in positive thinking every day.

    Every now and then, we hear about positive thinking and negative thinking. Positive thinking which is about setting your mind to the right direction by thinking and acting rightly. Negative thinking is about setting one’s mind towards defeat, fear and failure.

    It is undisputable that an individual who thinks positively will actually locate his success route. But what are the ‘raw materials’ he’d need along with this roadmap to achieve? The raw materials are the empowerment tools or ‘power’ to positive thinking. They are VISION, MISSION and ACTION

    VISION

    A lot of people talk about vision but do not know what it actually is. Denotatively, vision is a vivid picture created by imagination. It could also be something that can only be seen with insight or the power of imagination ( Merriam Webster Dictionary- Home and office edition). Vision is not just about prophecies or testimonies. It is about your dream or goal created in your mind. This is the major purpose of an achiever. For you to embark on a positive step towards success, you must have a vision. This must be after you must have discovered yourself (as I discussed in my previously). You have to bear in mind that no dream is too big or too small. Every positive dream could be significant to the world. An individual has to bring out purpose from his life because a life spent without purpose is like an empty treasure box.

    MISSION

    Mission is the next thing a productive individual should have. Anyone who wants to bring his or her vision to life has to plan and strategize how he/she will go about achieving it. The earth was not created in a day neither were monuments built overnight. It took strategic planning and steps to accomplish those tasks. An achiever has to map out ways and methods of making a successful journey by outlining and organizing his/her plans. He/she will have to think of what works and what does and doesn’t work. It is also important to get the right information from the right sources. This could be acquired by asking questions, research via mass media or any other technique that you think best for you. By doing all these, an individual becomes proactive.

    ACTION

    Furthermore, the journey doesn’t end when a traveler refuels his vehicle. Refueling I only a propellant to the next point in other to complete his journey successfully. The next point involves the utilization of the third empowerment tool which is action. This is when an achiever moves from proactivity to activity! This is when you have to practically make things work! Or better still, the application stage! It’s a popular saying that “actions tell better than words” The extent of your success depends on what you actually put in through your actions. Your input determines your output. To have a high level of efficiency in your goals, you have to put in your best. By being dedicated, focused and determined, you are erecting strong pillars of success for yourself. Always bear in mind that “commitment is the mother of achievement”. The depth of your struggle determines the height of your success.

    AN IMPORTANT POINT !

    An achiever must acknowledge the fact that there is a Force behind all existence. An invincible, invisible, mighty and powerful Force who grants us all possess. A successful person will have to reason and appreciate such blessings by acting rightly in the best manner possible. Such individual must behave as a rational human being and also develop a good character. Honesty is very important in whatever we do. Humility is also important because developing pride and arrogance is like constructing a sky-scraper without pillars. Imagine the result?

    In conclusion, I’d once again like to emphasize that living a life of purpose is about having a roadmap known as positive thinking. This has to be activated by three powerful forces namely; Mission, Vision and Action as enumerated earlier. More importantly, never forget your source of existence (God Almighty).     Daily affirmations can change your life. They are a direct and powerful approach to creating the perfect future for yourself. The reason DAILY affirmation works so well is because it gets refocused on what's important each day. Our minds are bombarded with all these things that demand our attention. Daily affirmation keeps you focused.

    We are responsible for taking care of our families, special projects at work, church, volunteer positions, PTA, school plays, and so on. We are so focused on helping others that sometimes we neglect ourselves. We must purposefully give special attention to ourselves each day. Some believe it is selfish to spend time thinking and focusing on what you want. I believe it grounds you. When you are kind, loving, and compassionately giving to yourself, it has been my experience that it is easier to fulfill the obligations you have made with others.

    Daily Affirmations are not designed to be lengthy. My affirmations may be longer than usual because I shout my affirmations while I exercise, which is usually an hour. Successful affirmations can be done within five to fifteen minutes, depending on the size of your goals list.

    In addition to keeping your focus, affirmations create within us the belief that we can actually do what we affirm. Not only that, but the confidence needed to act upon it. Confidence and action will always accompany strong daily affirmation. Keep in mind, you deserve to have your life exactly the way you want it. With that said, depending upon what you want and the person you currently are, the things you want may be out of your grasp right now.

    I hate to say it, but the success you seek may not come overnight. In fact, if it does, I will be greatly surprised. I really believe our daily affirmations determine our actions. And through our constant belief and actions, we turn into the person that can easily achieve the goals we've set for ourselves and even more. Whey you affirm to the world who you are committed to becoming, and what you are committed to having, an invisible force kind of takes over and supernaturally helps you achieve them.

    Affirmations are worth investing in daily. The process of taking you from where you are to where you'd like to be is likened to investing in yourself beforehand, and gaining a high return a short time later. You deserve it.

    You deserve to have your life exactly the way you want it!!!
